The TelstraClear international and domestic Internet supply was restored at 7.45pm, Tuesday 11 November 2008 after being down for 2.25hrs. The impact of the unplanned outage from TCL was to reduce our international capacity by 60% and the domestic capacity by 75%. The impact was increased by the complexities of QoS, an issue we will be addressing immediately to improve re-distribution of data capacities in the unlikely event of a similar situation in the future.

The gravity of the situation has not been lost on KCI. We are arranging an urgent meeting with TCL to establish what happened and to ensure there is no repeat. That said, this is the first time the TCL international and domestic supply has completely failed since we increased our uptake from TCL in 2004. Nevertheless, the lack of redundancy for supply of even reduced services is contrary to the commitments made by TCL.

On behalf of KCI, we apologise for the interruption to services.

Two devices are being replaced by TelstraClear, Auckland Internet Juniper routers IE1 and IE2. First IE1 will have 2 x 30 minute outages, then IE2 will have 2 x 30 minute outages.

The KCI service on IE1 is Domestic bandwidth.

The KCI service on IE2 is a tunnel feeding the out of Auckland RAS dialup ports. Inside AK dialup ports are unaffected.

The two outages of up to 30 minutes on each of IE1 and then IE2 will be between midnight and 5.30am on 5/08/08.

Sunday 29th June 2008, 1pm to 9pm. Loss of connectivity from South St Datacentre to the Skytower due to a Vector Communications link failure. Affected interconnects at the Skytower of wholesale clients and connectivity to the APE.

Commspace has been implementing a wireless backup to the Skytower, that is now on a fast-track. Immediately KCI is provisioning a High Speed VLan to the Skytower via TelstraClear for added redundancy of that link.

Friday 6 June 2008

A Cisco Gigabit Switch at South St restarted at 11:12am due to a UPS restart. We are not sure why the UPS restarted but it will be replaced.

As Vector and TelstraClear Gigabit links are connected to this switch, it affected some domestic and international traffic. The outage lasted about 6 minutes.
